Editing a DRC
Maybe a pub date moved, you want to open up a Request Only DRC to broader access, or you need to extend an expiration date that’s coming up fast. You can update most settings on a DRC at any point after it’s been published without taking it down or re-uploading the file.
Who can do this: Org Admins and DRC Admins (within their assigned scope).
Getting to the Edit Panel
Go to Organization → DRCs and find the title you want to update. Click the ⋯ menu on the DRC card and select Manage DRC. The DRC modal opens as a popup. This is where you’ll make your changes.
What You Can Change
Access Mode
You can switch between Invite Only, Request Only, Access Now, and Phased Access at any time.
A few things to keep in mind when switching modes:
- Switching to a more open mode (e.g., Request Only → Access Now) takes effect immediately. Users will be able to start reading right away from the DRC page.
- Switching to a more restricted mode (e.g., Access Now → Request Only) does not revoke access for readers who already have it. It only affects new readers going forward.
- Switching to Invite Only hides the DRC from the browse page immediately. Readers who already have access keep it; no new readers can discover or request it.
Active Date and Listing Expiration
You can push the Active Date forward (if it hasn’t arrived yet) or update the Listing Expiration to extend or shorten a DRC’s run.
Changes take effect as soon as you save. If you extend an expiration that was showing an “Ending Soon” warning, the warning disappears from readers’ libraries once the new date is saved.
For a full breakdown of how these dates work, see the Setting a DRC Active and Expiration Dates article.
Recipient List (Invite Only DRCs)
If your DRC is set to Invite Only, you can add or remove recipients from the Manage DRC panel.
- Adding a recipient: Add users by email. They’ll receive a notification once added.
- Removing a recipient: Click the × next to their name. This revokes their access immediately.
DRC File
You can replace the DRC file if you need to upload a corrected version of an EPUB or a new PDF layout.
Replacing the file does not affect anyone’s existing access. Readers who already have the DRC approved will get the new file the next time they open it. The file size and format limits are the same as on upload (EPUB under 100MB, PDF under 250MB).
Tip: If your DRC has active readers mid-way through the file, replacing it will affect their progress in the reader. They’ll be notified that the file has been updated, so they’ll know nothing is wrong or broken.
Saving Your Changes
After making edits in the Manage DRC panel, click Save Changes at the bottom of the panel. Changes to access mode, dates, and recipients take effect immediately. File replacements may take a few minutes to process.
Frequently Asked Questions
Will readers be notified when I change something? It depends on the change. Switching from Request Only to Access Now doesn’t trigger a notification. Adding a new recipient to an Invite Only DRC does notify that person. Revoking a recipient’s access does not send a notification. Editing metadata or a cover image will also not alert users.
I switched to a more restricted access mode but a reader still has access, is that a bug? No, this is expected. Readers who had access before the mode change keep it. Access mode changes only apply to new readers going forward. If you need to remove a specific reader’s access, you can do so from the recipient list (for Invite Only DRCs) or contact Covered support.
Can I take a DRC down entirely? Yes. You can either set the Listing Expiration to today’s date (which will expire it immediately) or switch the access mode to Invite Only with no recipients, effectively making it inaccessible to anyone new.
My edits aren’t showing up in the browse page, how long should this update take to show on the site? Most changes (dates, access mode) update within a few minutes. File replacements can take a bit longer depending on file size. If changes haven’t appeared after 10 minutes, try a hard refresh and contact support if the issue persists.
