Found a galley you think a colleague would love? See a debut novel that's perfect for your library's book club picks? You don't have to keep it to yourself! Covered makes it easy to pass along a DRC to anyone who needs to know about it.
Sharing a DRC means sending a link or email so someone else can find and request or access the title. Sharing a link doesn't automatically unlock the file. If the publisher has the DRC set to 'Request' mode, your recipient will still need to submit a request and get approved before they can download.
Where's the Share Button?
To share a DRC:
- Click on the title of the DRC you want to share.
- Click the Share button in the upper left corner.
- Enter the email address of the person or people you’d like to send the DRC.
That’s it!
Just Want the Link? Copy It.
Not an email person? No problem. Every DRC has a permanent shareable link you can copy and drop wherever you like: Slack, a text message, a shared doc, wherever works.
1. Open the Share dialog for the DRC.
2. Scroll to the bottom of the dialog and find the Shareable Link section. The full URL is sitting in a read-only field, ready to go.
3. Click the Copy button (the clipboard icon) to the right of the link. It'll flip to a checkmark so you know it worked.
4. Paste it wherever you want. You don't need to add any recipients or click send.
Tip: The link goes straight to the DRC's listing page on Covered. If the person you're sharing with doesn't have a Covered account yet, they'll be prompted to create one before they can request or download the file.
Someone Shared Something With You?
When a colleague shares a DRC with you through Covered, you'll get an email notification with a link. But if you missed the email, don't worry, there's a dedicated spot to find everything that's been shared your way.
1. Head to DRCs in the top navigation.
2. In the Filter sidebar, flip the Shared with Me toggle on. The list filters down to show only the titles other users have shared with you, no scrolling through hundreds of galleys to find the one your rep mentioned.
Titles are sorted by when they were shared, so the freshest recommendations are right at the top. Click any title to open its detail panel to read or request.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does sharing notify the publisher? Nope. Sharing is between you and your contact, so the publisher doesn't get a ping. They're only notified if a user submits a request.
Can I share a DRC I haven't requested yet? Absolutely. You can share any DRC you can see in the browse list, whether or not you've requested or received access yourself. You're sharing the listing, not a copy of the file.
What if my recipient doesn't have a Covered account? The link works for anyone, but they'll be prompted to sign up Covered account (or sign in) before they can request or read anything.
How long does the link stay active? The shareable link works as long as the DRC is live. Once the listing's expiration date passes, the link will show a notice that the DRC is no longer available rather than just breaking.
