Requesting a DRC
Digital review copies (DRCs) let you read new and upcoming titles. When you find a book you'd like to review, requesting access takes just a few clicks.
Finding a title to request
Browse the DRCs page to find titles available for request. Each card shows the book's cover, title, author, publisher, and ratings.
Some titles already in your possession will show Read Now instead of Request; those are DRCs you've already been granted access to, or DRCs that do not need to be requested.
Tip: Use the Availability filter in the sidebar to filter to titles you can still request. Set the Smart Filter Hide Already Requested to keep your view clear of titles you've already acted on.
Opening the request form
Click the Request button on any DRC card to open the request form. You can also click a title's cover or title text to open its detail panel, then click Request from there.
Submitting your request
Once you've filled in the details, click Submit Request. Your request is sent directly to the publisher for review.
You'll see the card update to a pending state while you wait for approval. Some publishers approve requests automatically; others review them manually.
After your request is approved
When the publisher approves your request, you'll receive a notification. The DRC will appear in My Workspace → DRCs with a Read Now button. From there you can:
- Click Read Now to open the title in the in-platform reader.
- Download the Covered Reader app to access your DRCs on a mobile device or tablet.
Tip: DRCs have an expiry date set by the publisher. Keep an eye on the Available until date on each card, titles expiring within 7 days show an amber warning so you know to prioritize them.
Tips for a smooth request
Request early: give yourself plenty of time to read or listen.
Be specific about your intended use: a clear, detailed note improves your approval rate.
Complete your Profile: Some publishers want to know exactly who they are approving to access their content. By completing your profile, you’re giving yourself the best possible chance to be approved for DRCs.
